10 Ways to Celebrate a Promotion

Getting promoted at work is a cause for celebration.

Not only did your promotion probably come with an increase in salary, but it also recognizes your accomplishments.

A congratulatory handshake or pat on the back from your boss is great, but chances are you still want to celebrate with friends and family.

Here are a few ways you can celebrate your promotion either with your loved ones or by yourself.

1. Go shopping for a new outfit

Your promotion is the perfect time to update your wardrobe.

Depending on the position you just landed, it might be necessary. In some job positions, looking professional is a requirement.

Treat yourself to a new suit or dress.

If your shoes are looking a little worn, treat yourself to a new pair.

If there is a watch, tie, or necklace that you’ve been eyeing, now is the time to spoil yourself.

You want to look your best when you assume your new position.

2. Celebrate with coworkers

Do you have close friends at work?

If so, invite them out for a celebratory drink or meal.

They’ll appreciate the gesture and it can help make things less awkward if you’ve just been promoted to their boss.

Besides, it’s always better to celebrate your good news with others.

You might even get a few congratulatory gifts that you can use to decorate your new office or work station. Show appreciation regardless of gift value because even the small ones come from the heart.

You all can discuss and share ideas on how you handle the tasks at the office.

3. Have dinner with your significant other

If you are in a committed relationship, your promotion will affect both of you.

So, why not celebrate together?

Go out to your favorite restaurant and take the time to discuss what the change in your job title will mean.

If your hours have increased, now is the time to talk about that.

You can also plan on how you’re going to spend or save the extra money you’ll  be bringing in.

4. Do something nice for someone

You can be altruistic and celebrate your recent promotion.

Instead of treating yourself to a fancy dinner, why don’t you do something nice for someone down on their luck?

It can be anything from volunteering your time at a local food bank or shelter to visiting the elderly at a nursing home.

A simple visit from a stranger can brighten their day.

Sometimes just sharing your good news with others by helping out can be the best way to celebrate.

5. Take a trip

This isn’t always possible immediately after your promotion, but when you do have a couple of days off, treat yourself to a trip.

You don’t have to go far from home so that you can be back for work in plenty of time.

If you do decide to celebrate with a mini-vacation, there are a few points to remember.

Even if your promotion came with a raise, you still want to stay within your budget.

Take time during your vacation to relax, but don’t forget to immerse yourself in some of the local sights.

Once you’re back home you’ll be refreshed and ready start at your new position.

6. Treat yourself to a day at the spa

Your promotion is the perfect time to celebrate by booking a day at your favorite spa.

After all, you do want to look and feel your best.

Get a massage or spend some relaxing time in the sauna.

You want to be refreshed when you start your new position.

This is also a good time to get a haircut. You do want to look your best.

A facial, manicure and pedicure can also help you look and feel ready to assume your new company role.

7. Throw a party

Some promotions deserve a party.

You might not be able to throw one the same day you were promoted, but it doesn’t matter if you wait till the weekend.

You’ll get a better turnout if everyone attending has the next day off.

You can have the party catered, serve light snacks, or get everyone involved by having a potluck.

You can set the time for a day or evening get-together.

Set up some games and activities and enjoy celebrating your promotion with those you care about.

8. Go to a fancy dinner

Sometimes it’s just you celebrating a promotion, and you’re not sure what to do.

The idea of a spa or shopping isn’t appealing, so why not treat yourself to a fancy dinner?

There’s nothing wrong with celebrating by yourself.

The most important thing is that you recognize your success and accomplishments.

9. Celebrate with family

You can celebrate your job promotion with family. You can visit them and share your success story, and have a meal with them.

You can also invite some of your family members like your parents, siblings, aunts and uncles to a small party just for them.

You don’t have to break your budget for this. Just enjoy your time with your family.

10. Live your passion

This can be the best treat for yourself at this point in your life.

Celebrate it by living your passion or doing things you love and enjoy.

If it is dancing at a disco, do it. Plan a road trip if you feel like it.

Go on a bike ride, photograph wildlife, or go surfing. This will boost your morale and make you feel fresh.
